If you are saying we are an up tempo team, how do you define "up tempo"? I wouldn't call us "up tempo" when I watch the Memphis, Bama, and LSU tapes in their entirety.55chevy wrote:I am a Hugh Freeze fan and think his hire has been a home run. With that being said there are some things I want to see. First I want to see him develop a QB that can run his system and do it right. The QB position is so important in his system that the offense will struggle without a very good QB. I want to see him maintain the defense that he has built so far. Most up tempo teams don't have dominate defenses. They try to out score other teams. This years defense has been great but I want to continue watching the defense play like it is a sin to give up a TD. I want to see him recruit a big, fast running back. Deuce McAllister the second is what I have in mind. Last but not least I want to see the offensive line come along like the rest of the team seems to be. I know it takes time but every aspect off the program seems to be ahead of schedule other than the O line.
I define "up tempo" as playing hurry-up, getting to the line of scrimmage quickly, snapping the ball early in the play clock, and keeping the defense on their toes. That ain't us! I'd call us "down tempo"! We have some good traits, but Bo is getting the play with 10 seconds or less on the play clock like 80% of the time.
We did look up tempo much of the game against A&M, but we stopped being "Up Tempo" late against A&M, and haven't gone back.
I agree that Freeze has done a pretty good job! I would say if we had played up tempo for 3 to 4 quarters against LSU & Auburn we would still be undefeated.

I think the reason we have slowed it down recently is to minimize mistakes and to shorten the game relying on our defense. I think CHF would really like to get back to playing faster but thinks his best chance to win this year is to do it the way we have been. It is his job to determine what path to take to give us the best shot at winning. Yes, we have lost two games but we were in both games at the end with chances to win. This team could easily be 8-1 or 9-0 right now. If we would have played up tempo we might have won but we could also have been in a position where it was totally out of reach in the fourth quarter.

Yeah, the explanation he gave the press doesn't add up. We have had several of the "negative-two (yards) or negative-threes" that he claims this offense prevents from happening.ThunderReb wrote:Coach got away from up-tempo due to injuries and depth on the o-line.....
