Early line for our game next week

I think that 7.5 or 8 would be a good line. I expect that Wake will cover and probably beat us by 10. Even if Jerry and Hardy got back for the game, there would be problems. I think we are looking at WFU 42 OM 32.

Unless we make huge strides with the D-line, then they will easily cover the spread. Our best chance is to put up more points than they do. I was really dissapointed in our ability to stop the run or put any pressure on the Mem QB on Saturday. Our defense is not anywhere close to what was advertised early on. Mem didn't do anything that they haven't done the past few years and we could not stop them. When we did stop them, it was usually because of errors that they made.

I'm hopeful that we will improve significantly between game 1 and 2, but realistically, a win at WF is a long shot.

Memphis could be a bowl team this year. Line judge gave them 7 and took 7 away from us. Line judge probably gave them 80-90 yards and took about 60 away from us (really really bad calls). That's a 140 yard swing. W/F will probably beat us, but they won't shut us down...and they will want to run the clock in the second half to keep the ball out of our hands if they have much of a lead.

I am counting on an old Football adage... "the biggest improvment comes between the 1st and 2nd games." I like our chances if we can get our Db's on fire and maybe get the ball to bounce our way a few times.

I see some serious holes in the D that need filling. They've got to keep conversions down and the big dudes need to make some serious tackles... hurt some folks if ya hafta. Our offense will get their act together, I think, when some of the jitters die down. I see Wake taking this one, by 10-14. I hope I'm wrong.

I am counting on an old Football adage... "the biggest improvment comes between the 1st and 2nd games." I like our chances if we can get our Db's on fire and maybe get the ball to bounce our way a few times.

If our D-line doesn't improve, I think it will be a long game for the Rebs. The reasoning for this opinion is that last year WF passed the ball 5 times total (if I am not mistaken) and beat the crap out of us. They virtually said, "We are going to run the ball because we know you cannot stop us.", and I think they will do the same this year too, especially if they watch any game film this week (and I have a funny feeling they will ).

Hopefully, this year the O will do better and give our D-line time to rest. Then, we may be able to stop that running game a little more effectively and stay in the game. But in the end, WF comes away with the victory, 31-21.

I don't know why anyone would ever suspect a D line being a problem against a spread offense...D linemen don't need to even be in the game against a spread offense... you really need 9 db's and 2 LB's against a spread...no teams d linemen can even get to the QB unblocked, when the Qb lines up to take a snap 10 yds deep in the backfield...EVER. D linemen aren't that fast and even unblocked can't get to a mobile QB that deep. If Wake resorts to the run our D linemen will be just fine...if it rains the passing game will suffer and play to our strengths. Bring it.

Well put. And one other thing I might add, Wake has not seen an offense with the speed and strength we bring; however, I would equate Memphis with a certain comparative quality to that of Wake. Granted Wake's D is better than Memphis but I like our chances on offense against any ACC team. The game will hinge on how well be play on defense.

I think it is way to early to label our defense in anyway at this point. However, I will say that one of the benefits of a spread offense is that it opens running lanes. It is not only a pass happy offense but has tremendous upside for the run. I would love to hear someone who has knowledge of WF's personnel. How many threats do they have on O? Cause I really think we got them covered. Now what we do not know is how our O matches up to their D and vise versa...

I was bummed out that I didn't hear Powe's name called but once. I was also bummed that they converted on 3rd downs a lot... gave Memphis a chance to move down field. Will have to see after next game how that improves. Did I ever mention that I absolutely hate the spread? 'Cause I do. Really.
